Welcome to Daily Art Online!
Happy New Year! The Daily Mountain Project is officially ended.
It has been a wonderful experience to paint the mountain and share them over the course of a year. I have learned a lot about really looking and trying to capture what I see, not what I think I should see. I have also grown artistically through my experiments with different media and techniques.
I will continue to work on a series that depicts some of the beautiful old barns dotting the Shenandoah Valley. I am framing my barn series in rustic handmade frames fashioned out of siding reclaimed from an old barn that was torn down here in Woodstock.
A selection of original pieces from the Daily Mountain Project and the Barn Series can be viewed in person at the 7 East Gallery in Woodstock, VA and the King Street Art Works in Strasburg, VA.
About the Daily Mountain Project
I am a landscape artist residing in Woodstock, Virginia. Living as I do in the Shenandoah Valley, it’s hard to ignore the daily drama of the mountains, which look different minute by minute as the sun rises, fog settles, clouds drift, night falls.
The beauty of the mountains is at once a transitory and timeless feast for the eyes, whose true nature can only be captured over time. The Daily Mountain Project is my attempt to document that true nature over the course of one year and share it with you.
Beginning January 1, 2010, I have attempted to sketch Massanutten every day. Every day, I try to recreate the view of the mountain that I can see from a window in my home. The sketches are done in various media, at various times of the day and posted on this blog site daily.
I invite you to access the RSS feed so that you can enjoy the mountains everyday, as I do.
